Australia got rid of their 1 cent and 2 cent coins in 1992 because of the cost of making them. Most people haven’t missed them at all. We got rid of our 1$ and $2 Notes in the 1980’s and replaced them with coins. Replaced our paper money with longer life and more secure Polymer notes also in the 1990’s USA needs to get a handle on manufacturing costs over misplaced nostalgic reasons for keeping redundant and expensive forms of currency.

Seems like the cost of minting pennies and nickels is made up by the dimes and quarters.

A quarter once told a penny how he was worth 25 times as much as a penny.Maybe so, said the penny, but I go to church more often!

You would only round up on cash transactions requiring coins. All others would still be figured to the penny.
