Sputnik The world's first artificial satellite was launched into space in 1957 aboard an ICBM designed to carry a nuclear warhead! Hot date! Katharina Henot of Cologne, Germany, burned at the stake for witchcraft in 1627, was granted a posthumous re-trial in February 2012 and was declared innocent! Sea pigs- relatives of sea cucumbers, walk along the ocean bottom on their stubby leg like tentacles and route through the sea floor mud for food!

And, since the retirement of the space shuttle, the upgraded version of that same rocket is our only access to the International Space Station. Aren’t you glad it was never used for its original purpose?

Seems awfully distasteful to pun about the horrible execution of an innocent woman, no matter how long ago that happened.

I don’t remember anyone scared because of Sputnick. We gazed at the sky trying to get a glimpse of it. My father in law named his dog “Sput”

Only Katharina’s guilt or innocence was at stake in the retrial! Unfortunately, her life could not be given back retroactively. However, if she was a born-again Christian, she is with the Lord in Heaven eternally!

It is far more complicated than that. While some"witches" were burned because they were really thought to be such, many more died because someone wanted them out of the way for financial or some other kind of gain. And you would be amazed at how often men were thus executed.

I still remember watching Sputnik one night here in Washington State. I was about 10 years old back then and it was a clear night.. The satellite was in an extremely low orbit.I could see the sun glinting of of it and it really looked like it was tumbling as it was passing over from east to west.
