It isn’t clear that the moth was the first computer bug. Some think the term “debugging” existed earlier, and Grace Hopper was using humor when, after discovering the moth, she wrote that it was the first known case of actual bug being found. By the way, she taped the remains of the moth in her journal.

Following the hanging it sounds like there were some sick vultures around. They were as much a criminal as he was if they thought that was appropriate behaviour.
