Over 1400 redheads from around the world attended the 7th annual redhead day convention in Breda, Netherlands, in September 2012! Strike! Strongman Mike Gillett, of Des Moines, Iowa, survived having a 14 lb. Bowling ball dropped on his stomach from 8 feet in the air, fall lying on a bed of broken glass! Michael Jamison from Brakpan, South Africa, uses a Bengal tiger called Enzo as a guard cat!

A fine place to film a new version of the Sherlock Holmes story “The Adventure of the Red-Headed League!”

@Prof danglais – the only explanation that I can think of is there are two different teams with different processes. The folks doing the strips use gif “cause that’s the way it’s always been done…”

Beware of spider much more effective than beware of tiger.
Poor aim made Mike a soprano, ouch.

Do the redheads have to prove they are redheads? Or is red hair more an attitude thing than factual?

I have a red haired daughter. She has a son with red hair. My younger son is a red head. I wonder how they would fare at this convention?

Gif format is quick and easy to render, but carries less information and is therefore more suitable to images that are already small to begin with and don’t require as much detail. Jpeg, as cooncat yesterday pointed out, has an effective compression that combines more information into a relatively small file, but in order to do that takes longer to compile. Therefore it is reasonable to surmise that it is used only for the larger original images such as the Sunday strips because it is only worthwhile when more detail is actually required.

Prof danglais; what makes you think the weekly strips are not jpeg? I magnified the weekly strip to about the same size as the Sunday and could see no difference. However the explanation gocomicsmember gave is the correct one.
