Ripley's Believe It or Not! In 1910 Florence Lawrence (1890-1938) of New York City became the first-ever movie star -- previously, actors were not named in credits. Koumpounophobia is a terrible fear of buttons! Gouging was an 18th-century North American backwoods sport used to settle arguments - the aim being to gouge out your opponents' eyes! Fighters would grow their fingernails long for the purpose.
