In 1808, Monsieur De Grandpre and Monsieur De Pique dueled 2000 feet above Paris in a hot air balloon, for the love of a woman- leading to De Pique and his copilot plummeting to their deaths. Ribbon worms can eat 95 % of their own bodies if they cannot find food- and still survive! Thanks, but no... In 1952, Albert Einstein was offered a presidential seat in Israel, but declined.
I surmise a different scenario than the one pictured above, with loose ropes flailing about, seeing as how it looks like they were dueling with pistols. It would take a real sharpshooter to cut those ropes with a pistol. Perhaps holes were shot into the balloon & punctured it? There appears in the drawing to be no device for making more hot air, which could be damaged & bring it down either.
