I understand that not all first streets are named First, but are they saying that there are cities with a Second Street, but no Third Street? Or Fourth Street? That’s a little hard to believe.
It’s been proven that most “First” streets are usually the streets to be renamed for commemorative reasons; which would make “Second” street the most common remaining street name.
I’ve been hearing conflicting “facts” about the most popular street names in the USA. These are the contenders: Main, Park, Maple, and Elm. Maybe a numbered streeet name doesn’t count?
The Phoenixville Firebird Festival was started by some local artists in 2004 but has taken on a life of its own. I’ve lived in town since 2005 but have never been to see the burning bird. There’s just something unappealing about standing outside on a cold December night with my bad back & arthritic hip…

If Second is first and First is third, is Main second?

According to the below site. Second is first, third is second and first is third. It’s almost like “Who’s on First?”

Fourth is actually listed as fourth. Main is seventh.

In Cambridge, Massachusetts, First Street is followed by Second Street. Then Third Street, Fourth Street, Fifth Street, and Sixth Street.

I’ll bet those goofs in Phoenixville posted a video of this ritual on YouTube. ‘Not too much gas, Earl! Hold my beer!” Sounds like a great time!
