That aerial Alaskan pizza delivery service reminds me of — if anyone remembers this early 1990s Disney TV show — a “TaleSpin” episode. (Where does Tommy even live?)
I am reminded that I need to find a reliable caretaker for my Hermann’s tortoise, Darwin.
He’s twelve years old as of last month, entirely vegetarian, prefers grass and weeds to store bought vegetables. By prefers I mean that he likes them better and that they are better for him as his kind have evolved a digestive system uniquely capable of digesting highly fibrous “waste” weeds that other animals shun. A steady diet of the fruits and veggies best for humans would make him constantly sick and doom him to an early death.
He’s among the smallest of tortoises, full grown at only about six inches of shell length, a little over a pound in weight. The females of his kind are at least twice that size, usually even larger.
But he’ll surely outlive me and I owe it to him to see that he is well cared for when that time comes.
I would suggest the coffee taster; Gennaro, should also insure his upper palate and sinus cavities as they are also associated with the sense of taste.
WE’ve been there! To Airport Pizza located in Barrow, AK. Very good pizza – and there are few roads there, and those are impassible except by snowmobile then.

I thought keeping exotic pets was illegal in most civilized countries.

The coffee taster probably still gets paid minimum wage with no benefits and is told “Your lucky you still have a job”.

Before Herman’s Tortoise, she was Trudy’s tortoise. and before that, Wilbur’s, and before that Ruth’s, and before that Penelope’s, and before that…

to determine the age of a tortoise , you have to count the rings on the shell.

The pet turtle I got in the 1950’s didn’t live for a month. I’m glad that sort of pet is no longer allowed!

Practically everything gets delivered by plane in Alaska – watch Flying Wild in Alaska on Quest – you’ll see why.
