whereas in the anime “Aria”, all the gondoliers — professionals and rookies — are female (the albatross bit reminds me of Disney movie “The Rescuers Down Under” where albatross Wilbur — voiced by John Candy (1950-1994) — baby-sits eagle eggs)

That doesn’t make sense. How then does bubblegum work? It’s sweeter than chewing gum.

So the lady gondolier is licenced as “an authorised substitute”. When do you need a substitute gondolier? I think the wording would have been better if it was……the only licenced authorised gondolier substitute is a female. I still have trouble with “licenced authorised”. If you are licenced aren’t you authorised?

Did I ever tell you that gondoliers are often injured on the job?

Do the albatrosses recognize their chicks if they’ve been shot by a crossbow?

And even she must not sing O Sole Mio, because the city council forbade it, because it is a song that is from Naples. (Or something like that.)

When blowing the bubble, bend at your waist so you are blowing the bubble straight down

I’d hate to think that, in Venice, the ladies are working other poles…

How does one get a license for a gondola? Do you take a drivers test and pass if you don’t run into other gondolas or the buildings?

Of course there’s only one female gondolier! It’s far too dangerous to let women get behind tiller of a gondola!

Been on a gondola in Venice. Biggest thing I took away from it: The smell of the canals. Not floral, either!

The ‘albatross’ looks a lot more like an ordinary seagull.
