Never knew that about Tom Hanks. I used to collect typewriters myself. -All of my typewriters predated the electric ones. When I met the woman who was to eventually be my wife, she was a little dismayed at the amount of space they occupied (took up one whole room of my house) “do they all work?” “Yep!” “Do you use them?” “Nope! Can’t hardly get any of ‘em to do spell-check or any form of auto-formatting, and deleting is a non-issue! They’re old typewriters!”. She made a compelling case for getting rid of my collection -I kept the three that meant the most to me -My favorite is an old gold-leaf underwood, the second is a “portable” that my father used when he went to college, and one that was the same model of corona I learned on back in high school. I’ve rebuilt them all, and they work flawlessly (I had to learn how to re-ink ribbons because two of them no longer have ribbons available for purchase).
