Sooooooo…..wealthy people didn’t take care of their teeth? Because blackening the teeth is going to make them look all decayed or like they’ve fallen out and if that makes people think you’re wealthy, that must mean a lot of wealthy people had black teeth. You would think they could afford to take care of their teeth.
Hey man gotta fake things a little bit for survival man you know man like nothing’s real anyway man so yeah man let me in man I’m Mick Jagger man gotta get the joint rollin’ I mean the Stones man. ~ Phineas T. Phreak, sort of still alive man
May the lost chord be with you as it is with trees. And gesundheit.
I’m a bit suspicious of the “Olympic Torch runner” entry; the mayor couldn’t tell it was fake torch when handed to him? Was he high?
Blacking your teeth in the 18th century made folks believe you were wealthy? Why would you want/need to do that? Also, weren’t there other clues about your appearance that spoke to your true economic status?
We’ve brought woke policies into our country under the false pretense that they make for a more enlightened and free society (BTW look at the results). So – the caterpillar? Not so hard to believe.
Although Olympic Torch Relay is the proper title, technically, it’s not a torch relay. It’s a flame relay. During most exchanges, the flame is passed from one torch to the next. Most of the torch bearers get to keep their torch.
When I was in Nam in 68-69, I saw a lot of the women there had blackened their teeth, supposedly from chewing beetle nut…whatever that was. Either way, it was awful looking.

Spoiler Alert: This is not the same ‘Barry Larkin’ who was an infielder for the Cincinnati Reds forty plus years later. You’re welcome!

Seems that Barry Larkin was more of a larrikin. (Aussie slang for a mischievous person. See Ginger Meggs)

I thought people blackened their teeth to look more like Queen Elizabeth I, not to emulate just any random rich person
