Meemaw: You know I'll find you, Rosie! And then you'll have to take the cough medicine! You always hid under your bed to avoid medicine!
Rose: There was a lot more room to hide back then!
This is just one of the main themes of this comic: reversion to childhood. It’s silly, but I find it appealing. Rose’s other alter ego is more fun, though.
Every one of us still has a little girl or little boy inside. Vide Eric Berne (and Freud – although his terms were different the structure was similar). That’s why the concept is funny – and also why, if it annoys, it annoys at such a deep level.
we all revert to childhood when our mothers are around, even if not especially you guys! this is a comic stip, get over yourselves and keep sexual comments to yourself. (maybe the childishness turns you on though…whatever…)
I used to run and hide when my mother had to give me medicine for all my little ailments. It’s true, all the adult character regress to children. But it’s a great strip.

Now this is just silly. Rose is a grown woman for goodness’ sake – with a child of her own. Women DO grow up you know!

Not sayin nuthin, nope not a word… There are no good ways to talk about issues of size with womenFeign absent-mindedness and leave the area

Taste… It rules us all.

If she was “really” sick, she wouldn’t feel up to getting under the bed. She’d also be willing to take anything if her cough was all that bad.

I heart Robitussin Honey Cough. Very effective and it tastes like honey

Ugh I can sympathize, I HATE the taste of cough syrup, but I do take it when I need to

Our medical residents once did an oral antibiotic tasting so they’d know which ones would have compliance issues.

Have you ever noticed that Rose only seems to revert to childlike behavior when her mother is in the picture though?
