@vanpelt is assuming that a waxing moon was shown rising in the evening, in which case its horns point the wrong direction and it is too far from the sun. @pcolli seems to think the same thing. In fact, this IS a possible sequence, but it would be a waning moon rising just before dawn. From panel 1 to panel 3 would take maybe 22 hours. Even the direction of travel for the rising sun and moon is correct for the Northern Hemisphere: up and to the right.
