My little home town had a local bus system. The ride from downtown to my house (maybe three miles) cost 15c in the 1950s. Don’t know what it cost to go to the next town (12 miles). But not many people wanted to ride that far though—partial local rides were more common.

I live in New York City. This scenario is almost impossible there, but the absurdity of it happening — considering the state of our mass transit — definitely cracked me up.

If all the employees waited for the bus – there would be no one driving the bus!

I found out that I could walk the seven miles to work faster than if I took the bus. Not a whole lot of incentive there.

We had a mini scandal here in Vancouver when it was learned that the Transit Authority provided cars for their own executives’ use.

Years ago I drove trains for the San Diego Trolley and being a new hire, often had to take the first train to the border out of the central yard at 5 AM, so I had to drive there since nothing was running before that!
