Probably XEW: 100,000 Watts and Mexico’s number one station from 1930s until well into the 1950s, “The Voice of Latin America from Mexico”. Had an amazing host of talent, the only station in Latin America above in variety was CBQ (Havana). The other radio powerhouse was Radio Belgrano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) but of course it could not be heard as far as the Northern Hemisphere. It did broadcast, however it simulcasted on Shortwave until 1937 when it became illegal for commercial stations to do so in Argentina.
