My mom was a Connecticut Yankee. When she moved to Indiana and married my dad, he got a kick out of teaching her to say “open the window” and not “winder” (short “i”). I still managed to pick up a bit of the Easterner from her; my own husband has pointed our that I say “sorta” (with an Eastern drawl) rather than “sort of”. In my opinion, all of our differences make life just a bit more interesting.
Don’t quite get this one? Yankees drop their r’s ? The law of migratory consonants states the every time a Yankee pahks his car in the yahd, someone south of the Mason Dixon will warsh his and put oirl in it.

Willie needs to work on his own speech before he’s old enough to go in a saloon.
