Of course, the price of drinkable water in those areas might go the other way.
Sure, Fracking MIGHT be able to be done in a way that doesn’t contaminate groundwater, but when the Gas Companies say “Don’t worry about it,” I worry about it.
Some large truck makers are in the process of switching to natural gas for their engines now and Flying J truck stops are going to supply the fuel coast to coast.
The cost of energy to consumers isn’t going to go below what the energy companies think they can get for it. Believing otherwise shows a complete lack of understanding and failure to learn from the past.
Interesting comments … some are also clueless. 1) Ground water is collected from wells FAR less than 1000 feet deep. 2) Fracking is done at 5000 feet and a lot deeper. 3) Are you saying that the fracking process ‘contamination’ will penetrate 4000 feet of rock? 4) Do you even have a CLUE as to how thick 4000 feet of rock is?
Therefore, anyone that says the ground water will be ‘contaminated’ by the natural gas we get from fracking wells, is a ‘special kind of stupid.’
@jim Guessby your logic the flotsam washing up along the west coast from the Japanese tsunami can’t happen because they’re too far away.guess the meteor that struck Russia a couple of weeks ago couldn’t have happened either, came from too far away.guess you’ve never heard of the ‘elk line’ in the mountains, go ahead and drink the water.what we don’t know won’t hurt us. the hubris of the deniers!
“I’m not arguing for or against Jim’s point, just pointing out your illogical comparisons.”let me make my point more direct. the answer is no one knows about 4000 feet of rock, though there’s a posting up there that sounds like someone understands it and it’s no a logical slam dunk.it seems like your logical slam dunk is: “4000 feet of rock, MUST be safe”.My default (and I think the more reasonable one is):4k feet of rock is an unknown and a distraction. do we wait until something happens? do we take the rather non-transparent word of the companies fracking? NO, I don’t trust the capitalists secretive word (what I don’t know probably won’t hurt me).Love Canal, et al….do we never learn?
Fracking theoretically can be done safely, but too many things can go wrong. Water is our most precious resource and if we contaminated our fresh water supplies, it would be a disaster.
“Fracking” has been used for a long time. Sometimes “safely”, sometimes not. Changing the rules under “W” to make pumped solutions “proprietary” added to the danger. Deregulation of “safety”, just as in the Gulf that allowed the BP blowout, makes it much more dangerous, and many regs need to go back to what we had B. B. (Before Bushes, and Cheney). Production can still be done, in some areas, safely, but not as long as the companies write the regulations. It’s like letting the Mafia right the rules for what the Justice Department can regulate, oh, wait, that’s what the Bankers and the “Investor groups” on Wall Street did!
I notice you constantly repeat the phrase “global warming scam.” I presume this is the standard tactic of the “Big Lie,” just keep repeating it until everyone believes it. Might work, too, as few people read the relevant science (I suggest starting with Hansen’s "Storms of My Grandchildren [yes, that’s the same James Hansen who is the world’s leading climate scientist]) and many listen to the Republican Noise Machine. You’d make a good creationist, or fascist.

Wow, has Breen even LOOKED at the real price we pay for fracking? Evidently not.

If you know this you know more than the rest of the world, Mr. Breen.

LNG is safer than gasoline. LPNs makes terrible heating fuel – that’s why they are used in HOSPITALS!!!

Fracking is used for the production of natural gas
Gas ≠ Natural Gas.

Let’s dig up more energy so that people can waste more of it. God put it here for us to waste as much as we want.
