A couple of years ago I was cashiering a day or so before Christmas, and all of the cashier’s lines were very long. You’d think people who shopped a day or so before Christmas would prepare themselves for long lines, but one “lady” complained loudly how slow I was (I was going quickly wile being friendly and helpful). Eventually she said, very loudly, that I was as slow as molasses in winter. (Thus the reason for this story here.) When she was close enough, I offered to exchange her for someone in another line if she liked. She said, “No, you will serve me, and be polite about it!” Or something like that. As soon as I processed her, my supervisor kindly let me go on my break before I cried.
Anyway, I didn’t think sap ran so quickly in the winter… Unless this season in Vermont was like at the beginning of “White Christmas.”

In Vermont, the trees are apparently filled with acid.
