I was Santa’s helper back in 1968 (I took the Polaroid pictures while kid sat on Santa’s lap). After Christmas Sears offered me a job in advertising (marketing?), but I had to tell them that my draft notice was for January.
I joined the Army the day before my draft date, so I could pick a school. I figured that – since I was college-educated, could type 70 words a minute, and was blind as a bat without my glasses – they’d hand me a M16 and put me out in the boonies.
