Imagine my surprise when I googled “Lady Byng Trophy” and found that such a thing actually existed. (Obviously, I’m not much of a hockey enthusiast.) According to Wikipedia, the trophy is awarded to the “player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability”.
Despite what Tank stated, in the previous five seasons center Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings has won - and accepted - the trophy the past four years; the award was not awarded in the 2004-05 season due to the NHL lockout.

I’ll bet he does get teased for it, though.
If it were called the Gordie Howe trophy, there would be less teasing.
Of course, Gordie would never, ever have been a candidate, much less had the trophy named after him.
The term “Gordie Howe hat trick” should tell us something. It means getting a goal, an assist, and a fight all in one game.
Lady Byng winners are outstanding players who don’t take a lot of penalties – Wayne Gretzky won it five times. Quoting the Wikipedia article:
Five players have won both the Lady Byng Trophy and the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP in the same season: Buddy O’Connor (1947–48), Bobby Hull (1964–65), Stan Mikita (1966–67 and 1967–68), Wayne Gretzky (1979–80) and Joe Sakic (2000–01).
Oddly enough, Stan Mikita was among the leaders in penalty minutes his first five seasons – he allegedly changed his game after his daughter asked him why he spent so much time sitting down after seeing him in the penalty box on TV!

Daughters can change one’s behavior, Goaler. No question about it.
