In the silent-movie era, towards the end, audiences got quite good at lipreading—-taking great delight in finding out the spoken dialog didn’t match the cards…
I remember decades ago when Randy Hundley was out of action on the Disabled List, the announcers at WGN-TV called him up & he was telling what the catcher was calling for live on TV from watching on the center field camera. That never happened again, as the Cub brass was not happy about it.
