I look forward each year to seeing who is the new Sports Jerk.
This morning, though, this thought just hit me. Along with a Sports Jerk, why not designate someone as the true Sports Hero of the Year?
It would be someone who is not only a clean player and respectful to the officials and fans but is also dedicated to helping financially a community, a hospital, a school, a charity, or a research project (such as endeavors to cure cancer).
Granted, this will be a crowded field, but one of them will deserve to be known as the Sports Hero of the Year.
Gotta admit, I never really considered Le’Veon at all. Guess it was just a blind spot due to taking far too much pleasure in watching the Steelers collapse.
Hey, Bill,Bell doesn’t need crap from you about his work. What about the team trying to steal his best years for less than they are worth? Nominate them.
I didn’t submit a nomination by the deadline, but I think David Warner would have been the best choice, just edging out Alexander Krushelnitskiy. Hundreds of millions would know why Warner deserved it, but the overlap between them and Tank McNamara’s readership is small.
ALSO:For those of you old enough to remember the defunct “Sports Jerk of the Week” website, you might recall that Matti Nykanen kept showing up on a regular basis. He died earlier this week. The Times noted how Nykanen was sent to jail for fighting after losing a finger-pulling contest.
What work? He ignored his contract and his team, and sat on his butt. Next time yo sign a contract with someone, think how you’d feel if later they decided they wanted more $$$ before doing any work?

I think it should go to Vontae Davis, personally. At least finish the game before retiring, instead of walking out on your teammates at halftime.
