In Tarzan the Terrible he kept snagging the last man in line of the enemy (who were on the march) with his rope, and then hauling him up into trees. Hurling their dead bodies into camp, or on the trail ahead of the leader was his amusement. Tarzan was a real terror to his enemies.
Burroughs had been with the US Cavalry in Arizona, and he learned all kinds of stuff from the Apache Scouts. Fortunately for him and us, this was about 10 years after Geronimo had finally given it up. But even so, there were still a few hold-out Apaches.
