Is inflation hurting your quality of life? It's all in your mind say right-wing "deoconomists" (Man 1: Todays' DVD players are 1/10th of the price and 1/10th better than 10 years ago.) Inflation, they say, doesn't account for improvements in technology and thus consumers lives. Salaries seem to be stagnatign, but your paycheck buys you cleaner air and lower crime than it used to. (Man 1: 20 years ago you didn't have a cell phone. You had to use a pay phone!) (Woman: Now there are no pay phones.) (Man 1: Shut up.) But, say earth-swelling economists: (Man 2: Technology has always improved. Should the shift from the stone to the iron age be deducted too?) Cheaper, more durable synthetic fiber suit. (Man 3: Who's to say that life is better now than it was in 199- or 1890 or 1790?) Tumor caused by cell phone. Neoconomists: patriotically working day and night to convince Americans they're not working day and night. (Man 4: Didn't we used to work less?) actually on a bahamian beach.) (Man 1: It seems like that- because you only had 60 TV channels, you were totally bored!)
