Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day!

The Aug 17 Ten Cats comic JUST showed up for today. If you go to yesterday’s strip, you’ll see everyone commenting that today’s Ten Cats isn’t here.

And yes I stood on the block wall and called her to come home, she just looked at me and turned her back. I never heard of such a thing. (yes she was spayed). Sigh

Poor baby Oliver, Life Lessons are hard!

The trip to Boulder to take the kittens was successful. Larry and Susan left at 9:45 last night and arrived there at 10 this morning. She called me at 10:30 and said the staff had checked them all in, fed them breakfast and was setting up appointments to have their vets give them all check ups. Whew! It was quite an operation late last night.

I had 2 kittens each in the soft-sided carriers and 2 in the blue top loader.

In honor of Black Cat Day I proudly post a picture of my darling Dale. Miss you sweetheart…and your sister, Kristen.

The right side of the van has carriers that are bolted down. The center of the van has a big wire cage with litter boxes. There’s also room for extra supplies like blankets, food, water, etc. There’s a door between the center area and the back where the kittens are so no outer door needs to be opened to get to the kittens.

That’s my Maxie (Maximillion) above in the picture with Dale. How he grieved when she passed. Now he is the big bro to Oliver, Tyler and Christopher. Poor Maxie went upstairs to bed one night and found Tyler and Oliver in HIS bed…happens quite a lot…but he let them sleep there while he slept on the floor.

This side has cat beds/bins that are bolted onto a frame. Dr Susans’ cat have the run of the area and are used to it because they travel between CA and UT all of the time. There is an extra a/c unit installed behind it so the cats are always cool. (or warm in the winter)

This is Susan -Cat Lady of Hurricane

This is the Meowmobile that belongs to Dr Susan. She had it custom fitted with everything when she bought it two years ago. She let Susan and Larry take it to Boulder. This is the same trip Dr S and I made last year. It’s a hard trip with non-stop driving for 12 hours except for gas, bathroom and food.

Happy Black Cats day! I read a story about black cats in Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul. The shelter worker called him Jellybean and he got adopted the next day. The lady who adopted him came back in and suggested she call all the black cats “Jellybean” and it sure helped get them adopted quickly from that shelter (after a history of black ones not being adopted at all).

I no longer have a cat, but I cat-sit these two beautiful black sisters, Sadie and Gracie.

Q of AYou do great work, and that meowmobile is something else!!! Keep up the good work. The world needs more like you and others who rescue the strays, unwanted and the discards of the cat world!!!

The Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Newport Oregon is full to capacity for cats. They need adoptions and fosters bad.I can’t help because i have no time or space. (And, quite frankly, my dog would most likely eat a cat. Or the cat would try to eat my birds.)If you live close, and you have been considering adopting a new, or another cat, please help.

My search for suitable vehicles has been expanded because of a comment by someone here on GoComics. It was suggested that retired government vehicles might be an option, so i decided to ask the local county (Lincoln County, Oregon) when/where they auction off old equipment. They told me tat everything is sold off through two web sites. GovDeals.com ( http://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm ) Public Surplus ( http://www.publicsurplus.com )All of it quite worn, but it IS possible that something serviceable could pop up.Its a slight chance, but one that i can’t ignore. So, I’m going to be looking in from time to time.Anything Oregon, Southern Washington, or Northern California is within distance for me. Given the time off to go look.

Thanks for your comment on Puppyface :o) I’ve been thinking about her all day. Don’t know how she’ll manage at home, rehab seems like a natural but she’s determined. I know you’ll let us know when she contacts you, thanks for being there for her – and us too.
