International Bat Appreciation Day. Not baseball bats, but the flying mammals that eat all the mosquitoes. I’ve always appreciated bats and I wish we had more of them around.

I was watching some videos the other night and one was about dances from the 1960s. I knew the female commentator wasn’t old enough to have lived through them because she pronounced the Frug, which has a long U as “the Frug/Rug” with a short U.
The cult of radio disc jockey has pretty much ended. The radio/satellite/Internet audio market has Balkanized into so many fragments that we will never again know that voice in the night – whispering to millions, his true nature disguised by wireless – a comfort and a prod.
Would they play “Cats in the Cradle?” How about “Year of the Cat” or “What’s New, Pussycat?” On another note, saw three towhees, six robins, three rabbits, and a Stellar’s jay while out walking today.
