Driving home from work last night, I experienced what might well be the scariest thing that ever happened to me in my life. Driving down the highway, I saw what appeared to be a deer standing in the middle of my traffic lane, just standing there looking at me. Deer usually just run straight across the road and it seemed very odd that this one was just standing there and not moving. I hit the brakes and when I got near the “deer”, I realized it wasn’t a deer at all. It was a person! And unless I’m mistaken, he was dressed in a deer suit. No antlers, though. He just stood there right in front of me. I moved to the left lane to avoid him and he took a step like he was trying to move back in front of me again. I think he wanted me to hit him. Now, I know I should have called 9-1-1, but I was so totally freaked out and shaken up, I wasn’t thinking clearly. I probably travelled at least a couple more miles before I thought about how I should have called the police, but by then, I couldn’t even have told them exactly where this was. It was pitch dark outside, it was way out in the “boonies”. All I could have said for certain was that it was somewhere between Middleton and Cross Plains – possibly a couple miles from Stagecoach Road. By the time I even thought I should call the police, a few cars went by which would have encountered the man if he was still out there on the road. I hope one of them called the police before someone hit the guy. I was still shaken up even after I got home. Talk about stress! I’m still a little freaked out and this happened nearly 3 hours ago.
