@Joe (from yesterday) I posted a reply there, but then checked the May, 2011, blog, where that was originally published (not chronological with this strip). Didn’t see anything there about where Mr. Melcher found it or the artist.
Big sister baby sits her little brother while Mom toils away at the Wal-Mart Super Store. However, Mom has saved enough to buy a little camera, and with the money she makes selling pictures to ‘People of Wal-Mart’, she hopes to raise her family’s’ standard of living.
Enlargement available here (if you click the different Languages, more information is available about the artist, with translation available at each point).
A gypsy’s curse is not necessarily on someone else. It’s more likely the gypsies that are cursed. The artist’s name does sound like a gypsy curse, though.
my best friends wife works at wally-world, and she is happy to have the job. as long as people are desperate for any work, and to save pennies they will continue to be able to get away with it.
I read a book on Sam Walton’s life. In his old age, he told his family if they don’t follow his Wal-Mart pricing policies and procedures after he passes away, he will come back to haunt them! Creepy!!!
cheap crap for western society on the backs of child labor in 3rd world countries. if romney becomes president, he would do it here. all kids working in sweatshops for 1 penny a day.
Painted by an Austrian painter, 7 years after the liberal (bourgeois) Revolutions of 1848 were crushed by the Habsburgs and the Hohenzollerns. It ALL might have been very different if they had succeeded…no WWI, no WWII, etc.,etc., ad nauseam….
When Sam was still alive the company took pains to publicize how much of their merchandise was made in the US. lots of signage and tagging of the clothing, appliances, etc. Now you have to hunt hard to find any American made merchandise.
Mabrndt does a marvelous job of the research most of us are to lazy to do (me included). I am happy to see info on the actual paintings (from which I can peruse further if I choose).
I have only been to Walmart a couple of times and those were in recent years as it was named as the place to get a state fishing license for a visiting son and a place to find large goldfish for my pond (wrong!! too small)

Priceless, and too sad and too real for humor or mockery. This is everywhere. It needs to be fixed.
