Sometimes the different colorations you reference will slightly alter the perception of the paintings……..nothing, short of a blacked out frame, would soften up that glare!

Modest enlargement can be found here, or here (Google translated), or at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.Portrait of Céphise Picou, sister of the artist is shown, with a sightly larger image, by its current-location. Other than giving you access to his other paintings there, the French online page adds nothing to what’s at the prior here and image links. But, if you want to see it, enter PICOU HENRY-PIERRE in the box next to ok here, click ok, click on the name, and click on the image in the new window to see the webpage (click the image there to see its enlargement in another new window). The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection.

Before I read the comments this time I want to say that in times of sumptuary laws ermine was reserved for royalty. Now to see . . .

And it is just later period and fashionable (no royalty or reality). Thanks, Mabrndt again for showing sources.

How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways. I loathe thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach. … I shall but loathe thee better after death. … Yours!with apologies to EBB
