“Goofus” and “Gallant”? That some comic strip way before my time?

I don’t get it, either.

Goofus and Gallant is a comic feature in the magazine “Highlights for Children”. I remember reading these when I was young! The two boys actually never appeared in the same panel – there were always two side-by-side panels showing how Goofus (immature, irresponsible) and Gallant (mature, kind, responsible) would act in similar situations. I totally get it, but I’m over 60…used to love this strip in “Highlights” and I always worried that when my mother read it to me, she was subtly accusing me of being Goofus. LOL

OMG. Hadn’t thought of those 2 in a whole lotta years.

A few years ago my mother (who is 88), told me she hated reading Goofus and Gallant to me when I was a kid. She couldn’t stand Gallant but didn’t dare admit that back then. I told her I didn’t like him either. .;)

And for some reason I remember when Goofus was spitting cherry pits into his plate while Gallant was putting them in a spoon and then putting them on the plate. Funny what sticks in our minds 50+ years later.

I was asked to sign my granddaughter up for this magazine, I did it sight unseen. Hope she’s reading it…but suspect she likes it for the games.

Wow… learn something new every day.

I’m 75 going on 76 and I have never heard of “Goofus” and “Gallant”.

Wait till Krampus takes over for the bad ones. Yum!

Donald Jr. and Eric will just get coal in their stockings, but then they could re-gift it to their dad be cause he LOVES coal.
