I used to volunteer to read books and newspaper articles for the blind. Maybe I should go back to it. It was very satisfying.

Does he mean that, since the (audio)book reads itself, the people who might have read the book with their eyes are shut out of the loop and don’t get to experience it at all? That misunderstanding would be funny, if it didn’t need a Comment to explicate it! Or does he mean that an audiobook is a book that reads itself to you, which is pithy and true and wonderful, but not at all amusing? Either way, different from the kind of punch line I’m used to seeing in this strip.

I prefer printed books, but with age, my eyesight isn’t what it used to be. Buy either a Kindle or a Nook and download eBooks onto it. Both allow you to enlarge the font to where it can be comfortably read. I have not listened to an audio book, though I know people who will listen to one while driving a long distance. Personally, I believe that might put me to sleep.

I don’t much care for audiobooks myself. I can read a book faster than i can listen to it in audiobook form.;-D
