When my daughter was young (some 30 odd years ago) I suggested we watch a great comedy “The Flying Deuces”. She said it couldn’t be any good because it was B&W. I insisted. She ended up literally ROTFL.
This appeared to be a joke, but it is just reality. The networks switch to color took place between 1965 and 1966. For example for TV shows caught in between, both Gilligan’s Island and Lost in Space season ones were in black and white and their season twos were in color!
Just as long as he isn’t watching TV Land because that network long ago stopped showing great classic shows like M*A*S*H and All In The Family in favor of unfunny originals like Younger, Teachers and Impastor as well as recent unfunny shows like Two And A Half Men and Everybody Loves Raymond. This is why I abandoned TV Land a long time ago and switched to broadcast digital subchannels like MeTV, Decades, Get TV and FETV that STILL believe is showing great classic TV shows.
What I want to know is why do those channels feature commercials for stuff I don’t need? My hearing is fine, not leaking anywhere of which I am aware, knees work great, and I already use Tums and Viagra; I just don’t get it.
You should only live to be so old. Then, snot-nosed kids will make you feel like relics from prehistory. “You didn’t even have implants from birth! Pah!”
and he, like I, were very happy to watch them then, and now, as it still brings wholesome entertainment and also awakens memories of family togetherness from days gone by. Black and white TV was fine, we didn’t need rose colored glasses…..
Our first set was a Philco black and white, which came from grandma, who had just purchased a color set. We got three channels! And two of them weren’t very “snowy”! The screen was pretty small, but seeing as how we had nothing before, us kids loved it! ☺
I’m not seeing the humor in this one. Guess I’m just too old. Frankly I’m glad I’ve been around to see the technological advances that have been made, but back then we didn’t really have a choice.
And yet, those old black and white shows were far more entertaining, uplifting, and better written than just about all of today’s so called entertainment. Swill in color with 4k resolution is still swill.
i did too…i saved up money from Christmas gifts and birthday cards and bought my own 10in b/w tv…$50 – major purchase for ten year old…and yes your parents can still tell you to turn off your own tv …i was so proud of that little guy

With a 10 inch screen and a built in magnifying glass in front of it. Yes, I know I dated myself.

Yeah, we were really roughing it back then.

I, too, was there. I even saw color shows in black and white for the longest time.

My family did not get a color TV until the mid-1970s.

I am not that old and we had a black and white set when I was young. Of course we also had a color one.

I resemble that remark. It’s strange, though, if B/W is so archaic, why do most hi-end dslrs and camcorders have a monochrome mode?

I remember motels with signs advertising air-conditioning and color TV. As kids, we were mostly interested in the cement pond.

I remember my aunt and uncle having a B&W television. And I don’t consider myself that old.
