No one ever seems to have a good answer to the question -“if we all switch to electric cars where does the electricity come from to power them?” I think we should be moving away from fossil fuels but if the alternatives do just as much damage to the environment are we any further ahead
At this time, there is no perfect system. It takes resources to make and ship any type car (or any other mode of transportation). The need at this time is to mitigate the amount of stress and damage we place on the environment. I’m not fooling myself when I plug in my electric bike, but I do know it is far less damaging than driving my gas fueled car.
Why do you think there’s a big move to get rid of coal-fired power plants? The people who drive these cars object strongly to the current administration’s protection of coal use. There are much more environmentally-friendly ways of generating electricity.
In Ontario Canada we just kicked out the previous Liberal government for going overboard on energy. In an attempt to go green they signed multi billion dollar contracts with major solar and wind power manufacturers. This tripled the cost of electricity in the province in less than two years. They also passed a law outlawing coal generating plants by 2022. All this might have been palatable if they hadn’t gone out immediately afterward and purchased a coal powered electricity generating company in the US north west to the tune of 1.5 billion US dollars.

Don’t even think about how ‘green’ the batteries are to produce.

Depends on how you use it, Rory.

Technically yes, a modern coal plant is more environmentally friendly than the 10,000 petroleum cars

The song by Dion called The Wanderer comes to mind. Just replace wanderer with ponderer.

I wish solar power was more efficient and less expensive. Perhaps in time.
