Grownups buy audio books and have their smartphones and tablets read to them ;)

D’awwwww…my sons are spaced in age like Toby and Eddie, and the older one always enjoyed sitting in on storytime reading. The last book I read to them was The Golden Compass (not my favorite). They were about 10 and 16 at the time. And now we read aloud to each other on road trips. You’re never too old to be read to. :)

Years ago I was reading a book to my kids in the waiting room of an auto repair shop. It was a lengthy repair, and I wound up finishing the whole book. When I finished, four adults got up and left…their cars had been done for some time, but they got hooked by the story…one of the Chronicles of Narnia.

@sbwertzI would do that all the time with audio books going back and forth to work. The problem was the next exit was the Canadian border!

I listen to one or the other of the Harry Potter series at least every 3 years. There are wonderful versions by both Stephen Fry (U.K. version) and Jim Dale (U.S. version.) Since I started listening to audio books in the car I can’t stand to listen to the radio.

I listen to a LOT of audiobooks while I’m inking and coloring cartoons. I like the Jim Dale Harry Potter books. Didn’t know about the Stephen Fry versions. Stephen did all the new Hitchhiker’s Guide unabridged readings. Don’t think I’ll like that more than the Douglas Adams reading himself versions. DNA is just too cool. Rest In Peace, Mr. Adams.

I like that Toby has his pillow with him while listening. .I don’t recall ever being read to as a child. But I always asked for a story at bedtime. And always got one. Grannie never needed a book to tell a story.

I’ve always enjoyed being read to. Before audiobooks, my husband would read stories he liked to me, then we could talk about them. After audiobooks, we are BOTH plugged in and listening to our own choices. But, I still prefer a live-reader. I can ask questions, and have him go back and re-read something I wasn’t sure that I understood. (He always did the character voices better, too.)
