I remember my granddad. He was great fun. My dad talk about him like he was tall and boring, though. Crazy, because if anyone was tall and boring it was dad. Then you and your brother were born, and I saw my dad act like granddad around you guys. Well you boys got older and I guess I seem pretty dull and boring to you. And then, when your sons were born, it was like seeing you guys little all over again. I felt young again! Toby and Eddie laughed and toddled and were as hilarious as you and your brother had been. Wow. So you're saying I'm the first generation to break the dull-and-boring cycle? No.
Maybe it’s me, but even people who self-stylize as “wild and crazy guys” and spend every moment struggling to be “the most interesting man in the world” are pretty darn boring and shallow people. I just accept that I’m dull, my pursuits are tedious, and I’m happy being that way.
