If retail has taught me anything, it is that some people apparently are not afraid of looking like big jerks

Just for the record I count. But keep it to myself, the line moves faster that way, and I don’t sound like a jerk.

This also takes care of the problem of the grammarians who like to point out that “15 Items or Less” is incorrect usage; it should be “15 Items or Fewer.” (I’m a grammarian myself but this one has never bothered me, as I think a case can be made that “less” is correct.)

They forgot one important factor, people don’t read signs.

Why isn’t the person with the cart full of groceries the jerk here? Why should the person that calls them on their bad behavior be considered the jerk?

I never have understood why the jerk with the cart full of groceries is entitled to a pass but calling them out for their bad manners isn’t. That’s just part of the problem these days, bad behavior and lack of manners are actively encouraged and anyone even thinking about correcting that behavior or manners is screamed down by the masses. Idiocracy should not be considered a how-to video.

I would probably still go to supermarkets for food shopping but order furniture, clothes and such online.

Yeah, 58 items is “around” 15. I’ve seen people in the express line checking out with their once-a-month shopping.
