Reminds me of my sculpture class in college. We had to follow the guidelines for each project, make a sketch, document every step, and complete each project – 4 per semester, if I remember correctly. Only one of mine ended up looking ANYTHING like my original sketches – it was the only one I didn’t get an A on – got a C for that one!
Moral of the story? A really good project will take over and grow into more than you hoped.

Technically, he’s right. He’s not describing a science project, but an engineering project. Still, there’s research, synthesis and innovation there.
