My mother did the same with my brother and sister but didnât last long so she just closed their doors and told them to leave them closed since no one else should have to look at their mess.
I had 3 brothers and no sisters. As the only girl I did all the housework when my mother worked. My brotherâs didnât do any. When my brother got divorced, he had no idea how to cook, do laundry or any household chores. He had 3 small children at the time.
How does it become âherâ housework when she isnât the only one living in the house? When my kids were living at home, I made a list each Saturday, assigning minute values to each chore. Then I divided the minutes by the number of people, including myself. Each person could dibs one chore at a time. When they had finished enough chores to equal their number of minutes, they got their allowance and the rest of the day off. Assigning 40 minutes value to cleaning the toilet usually got the rest of the jobs done rather quickly, and I actually donât mind cleaning the toilet, especially when the rest of the work is done.
