and that was a $32,000 commode(see def 2)
commode |kəˈmōd|
noun
1 a piece of furniture containing a concealed chamber pot.
• a toilet.
• historical a movable washstand.
2 a chest of drawers or chiffonier of a decorative type popular in the 18th century.
and the CEO’s should be happy that the rule of law still stands and we don’t just go all french on them and their $10,000,000,000.00 bonuses.
This strip is a clever pinko effort to ridicule valid complaints about the government capping CEO pay.
But once you agree the government can do that, you have no grounds to complain when they start to control YOUR pay. Or don’t you remember Nixon’s unconstitutional wage freeze?
As that 3/4 trillion bucks of “stimulus” starts moving thru the economy, the dollar will sink, prices will skyrocket, and the cry will go up to freeze wages and prices. It’s happened before, it can happen again.
I’m not saying it will come to that, but it’s the principle of the thing. Too bad Obama sneers at principles when they are not his.
pschearer again. Talking about stuff he when he obviously does not have the facts straight. The CEO cap is for companies getting a bailout. If you are taking taxpayer money because you ran the company to the ground, you do not get to use that taxpayer money for ridiculous luxury items and undeserved bonuses as has been shown to have happened, you are supposed to use it to make your company work again. If you do not get a bailout you are free to set your salary to whatever the board of directors will approve. And is 1/2 a million dollars a year poor house pay? I could live 10 years quite nicely on that.
And Schearer, quit being a jerk and projecting your own creepy personality on President Obama. He does not sneer, and he is more principled and ethical than you and your right wing hate radio/fox “news” watching crowd could conceive of.
I am very appreciative that another cartoonist has deemed it worthy to project the problems of America on people who are not truly to blame by demonizing CEO’s.
Why is it that no one can see that this whole down fall in the economy was caused by the overspending of the American workers. These are the people who were and still are spending more than they make. This crisis was caused by people over extending their credit and not paying attention to the terms and conditions that were being placed on the money that they were borrowing. Then once these people got the credit and got all of their new stuff they weren’t able to make the payments and are now looking for someone else to blame rather than blame themselves. If everyone had spent less than they make then they would be able to pay their bills; if everyone could pay their bills then all of our financial institutions would have the money needed to be successful. If this was the case no one would care about the CEO’s of these companies because they would be doing a good job. The reasons these CEO’s failed was they mistakenly believed that Americans would pay back the money that they borrowed.
This pitiful cartoon would be more accurate if in the second panel it showed all the things that the “citizen” has bought on credit but never really been able to afford.
As for foxglove16 you know nothing about the current president at all. It is a proven fact that people know less about obama than other president in recent history. You have no idea if he is ethical and you would be well advised to wait and see before saying how great he really is. Do not forget that President Bush had one of the highest approval ratings ever after 9/11 and know a lot of people think he is horrible.
Foxglove16: You do not understand the reasoning behind my politics and you know absolutely nothing else about me, least of all my personality. By calling me names because you don’t like my ideas you tell us a great deal about you.
As for your defense of the CEO pay cap, I already knew everything you said (again, you speak out of total ignorance of me) and altho the facts are basically true, there is a fatal flaw behind your argument.
You implicitly accept the idea that it is government’s job to run the economy. A long list of countries have tried that and they fail in exact proportion to the degree that they attempt it. History shows beyond question that freedom leads to prosperity and controls lead to failure.
Our crisis was brought about by government controls and the solution will NOT be more controls. Things will get much worse before they get better.
Poor Pshearer seems to have forgotten that it was the most extreme right government in US history, with a complete agenda of market economy, that brought about the current sad state of affairs. Extreme capitalism has failed as disastrously as extreme socialism. Give the new guy a break.
Well, I think everything has already been said. But, I agree with this cartoon, to a point. I also agree that people should live within their means, and not over-extend themselves. I guess it is their own duty to do that willingly, altho many don’t and that is why there are failing banks. But in the bank I used to work in, the loan execs who gave out loans with out suff. collateral had to pay them back. I kinda think that is a good idea. I know one guy went and did his own repos when he had to. Still, even if it is legal, why or how should corporate America ns be worth so much in bonuses’?
Waitliftin, you might be right, but does it matter? Whether the people got this country it the current rescession isn’t the issue. If someone is starving, you don’t tell them bugger off just because they spent too much money before they were starving, you give them some food. The government’s job is to protect and help the people. Obama is doing the best he can given the lack of funds left from the Bush Admin.
Remember that Bush spent most the money half way across the world on trivialities. Our soldiers were under equipped, under fed, and given multiple tours of duty. And we cn claim that we knwo less about Obama than anyother president in modern US history, but we nominated McCain, and thus Palin. Palin belonged to an extreme right wing church that said a woman should always do as her husband told her. Mr. Palin happened to belong to a tiny group of Alaskans who wanted to secede from the US. Do the research yourself.

This would be more appropo if it featured politcians. Depowering government on both sides of the aisle is the answer
