The Professor: Today our group will continue our discussion of underlying themes in Homer's "Odyssey." What messages did you get out of one man's twenty years of wandering? The General: I'll tell you this...that Ulysses was shrewd! He used strategy to achieve his objectives! Boone: Ulysses' story is all about making wise choices in life and what happens when you do or don't. Evelyn: What I learned was that even 3,000 years ago, men would not stop and ask directions.
The gods had it in for him. He could have planned to sail across the harbor and they would have tossed him for 10 years. (Then again, he get to spend a year warming Circe’s bed…and seven more with Calypso…)
