So, does the Postal Service get paid only when those “pre-paid” envelopes get used, does it charge for the right to print them? Just wondering if we would be helping them out by doing this or making extra work nothing.

I used to do this. I wonder why I quit?

I’m never sure if I should put in stuff that doesn’t identify me, or if I put in stuff with my name if they’ll take me off the list. It probably doesn’t matter.

When I get begging letters from non-profits I’ve never heard of, full of address labels or whatnot, and provided with pre-paid postage, I figure they don’t actually need any donation. I write “Take me off your list” on the donation slip, and stuff everything, especially the “gifts” they are trying to guilt me with, back into the envelope. Sometimes it takes three or four cycles, but they usually stop.

Some years back, my deceased grandfather, a lifelong democratic voter, received a begging letter from the committee to reelect Bush 43. I glued the envelope to a twelve pound box of rocks and sent it back to them. I’m sure they made good use of the donation.
