Traveling from “No Smoking” New England south and stopping in VA/Carolinas was always a shock. I have gotten sensitized. I use cigarette smoke as a metaphor for Covid-19, as in, “You know how you can tell when someone’s smoking at the other end of the room?”

A “Community” episode had the gang staging a ‘Pulp Fiction’ birthday party for Abed at a retro-themed diner Britta worked at. When the birthday boy never showed up the manager had them break it up, as it was cutting into his prime hours, describing customers “frightened by the evening news, many seek the comforting foods and music of a pre-racial America”.

When I see somebody smoking, I’d rather not pay attention to him/her. It’s unhealthy, but you don’t wanna be in a fight with anybody.

Yep, authentic 50s style would include racial segregation, bland food, and seeing Communists hiding behind every booth.

It’s been 29 years since my father died, but a meal not eaten without cigar smoke blowing paste my face just doesn’t taste the same.

Lighting a cigarette was code for; “I’m ready to go. Bring the check quicker if you want this stinky thing out of here.”

The guy does have a point. Unfortunately, it’s on top of his head.
