Thank you! Since that story broke, I have refused to support that organization in any way, shape or form. My donations now go to Planned Parenthood (which offers mammograms and other basic women’s health care screenings.)
It would appear that just looking at donations from she and her husband at the time is not adequate to understand her political views. Guilt by association is a dangerous ploy (kind of like guilty until proven innocent).
There are two main issues with the Susan G. Komen foundation, and particularly the CEO who founded it to memorialize her sister:1. The active use of funds intended to research breast cancer being used instead to fund political lobbying for unrelated causes, e.g., antiabortion efforts and candidates. Brinker is certainly entitled to her on views, but she has taken actions with the foundation that are questionable as well, e.g., they have ceased funding stem cell research, presumably for political reasons, since it has been extremely successful from a scientific perspective.2. “Pinkwashing” – they have been willing to let corporations whose products even cause cancer “support the cure” with the official pink coloring, etc., in exchange for a tiny amount of funding. It takes relatively little money from a corporation to entitled them to paint everything pink. For example, they have taken money from plastic bottle manufacturers whose bottle chemistry has been tied specifically to breast cancer! The most ludicrous example in recent years is a fracking drill bit painted pink, when it is certain that fracking chemicals are directly toxic and indirectly cancer-causing.Charity Navigator, an excellent website that allows you to look at various charities, gives them a two-star (of four) rating; mostly due to the fact that they have been decreasing in fundraising effectiveness in recent years, presumably because of people’s objections.Charity Navigator’s page:http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=4509#.ViJn3rzHsowOverall wiki page on controversy:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_G.Komen_for_the_Cure#Legal_battles_overtrademarking
Komen? Anti-abortion!? They support experimentation using embryonic stem cells — which can be obtained only from aborting children before birth! SGK will never get a cent from me. I would think they’d be lining the pockets of Democrats who support the slaughter of the unborn!
Who the hell cares how much a CEO makes when the entity they lead raises thousands of times more than that for research and development that is already improving women’s survival rate against breast cancer? Do you think a person in that job ought to do it for free, just because it’s a worthy cause?
@Laiane PP does NOT provide mammograms, only referral to such resources. The “women’s health services” they provide are, and always have been, birth control (contraception and abortion), with ancillary services such as STD screening and treatment referral. Politically, you’re either OK with that or not. They existed as a private organization for decades without federal funding, and they’d do just fine without it,
More partisan BS about the non-existent “war on women.” This strip is funny when he stays out of politics.

Who/what is Susan G Komen? This is clearly something very American, and parochial, that has not crossed the Pond.

Carly Fiorina sat on the board of a charity that benefited from the Clinton Foundation. She won’t tell you that though.

I don’t know Nancy Brinker’s personal views on women’s rights, but she seems to be an ardent supporter of gay rights (from the Wikipedia article):

Gee, I quit sponsoring people to run because the SBKF was giving money to Planned Parenthood.
