I first read Sinclair Lewis’ Babbitt, Elmer Gantry, and Main Street in high school, later It Can’t Happen Here in college.

I have always believed that, although he was writing in another day and age , his writing stood the test of time and was not only an indictment of his America, but a forewarning of things to come.

Pab, I feel your pain. I lost my home in Florida due to the housing collapse in 2008. One of the many reasons I live here in Ecuador, is that unfortunately, the United States is no longer an affordable place for a Senior citizen, on a fixed income to live.
