    I do it for the sheer joy of helping, not to expect anything in return. Besides, if their environment weren’t shrinking and changing so much, they wouldn’t need anything. Sheesh!

    There are a couple of cardinals around here who actually do that when the feeder is empty.

    I’ve got a video clip I took at the ocean beach where a kid thought it would be a good idea to feed a seagull. It quickly turned into a Hitchcock episode with the kid and family freaking out! It was funny from where I was sitting.
