I’ll have to try that. Our dog will mouth a hunk of peanut butter and still manage to spit out the pill. Yetch.

Now that she’s said it out loud, he’ll be onto her next time and eat it anyway. Some dogs are smart enough to know what you say. I know my cat is. :)

Individually wrapped cheese slices have worked with my old dog. She needs 4 pills a day for arthritis, and peanut butter and pill pockets don’t work, just as Dani Rice described. But 1/4th of a slice of cheese wraps each pill nicely, and she takes them without complaint.

It takes two people: one to hold the mouth open, one to place the pill on the back of the tongue and stroke the throat downward. Reflex does the rest. A reward reduces the chance of damage to the first person and helps keep it in the stomach.

That would definitely NOT work with my old Yellow Lab — LOL!!! If it’s on the counter, he thinks it’s fair game; we have a running battle about not getting up on the counter. grin

Should have wrapped the pill in bacon.
