I guess if you are training a dog to be more of a guard dog, you would say no. If you were training to socialize, you would say yes. Because we live in the boonies (read VERY rural area) we say yes because we don’t see a lot of people. :D
Unfortunately, our dogs are a bit on the wary side and generally demur.
Our german shepherds over the years always got treats at bank drive thrus and fast food drive thrus. About the only time they didn’t bark when someone walked up to the cars.
With all due respect to owners who wish to maintain perfect control over their dog, it’s always a disappointment to me when their dog comes right up to me, wagging its tail, and obviously wants a petting or a scratch and gets pulled back with the words, “No Rover, come here”, and then they apologize to me.

I had to ask a neighbor to stop handing cookies out the car window. Our dog started trying to run up to every car.
