@Craig Linder – You know, Stan Lee sold the right to Marvel to Disney. So, not as cool as he was 40 years ago!

Stan Lee is a arrogant, self-serving AO who NEVER gave proper credit credit to his co-creators.

Acknowledgement that Stan Lee took too much credit needn’t lead to giving him NO credit. Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, even Larry Lieber, what they have in common is that Stan wrote for ALL of them, for years and years and years. Yeah, so he’s a promoter. He promoted himself, he promoted the product, he promoted the company. The business model at the time was that the artists (and the writers) did “work for hire,” and the company’s owners owned the characters. That’s since changed (to an extent), and I’m glad.

And so now Disney owns Marvel. Big deal. In a couple of months “Dark Knight Rises” is going to make a billion dollars for Time-Warner (or is it still “AOL-Time-Warner”?). How much of that is going to Bob Kane’s heirs?

I was hoping the villain would be God-Man. Or Lucky Ducky.

@mercmarcYeah, even the caterer gets mentioned nowadays. And half the time you have to stay there just in case there’s some surprise teaser or extra scene after the credits end.

No one ever mentions Don Heck, who co-created Iron Man, Hawkeye, and the Black Widow.

God knows how many times in my life I sat waiting and watching, to briefly glimpse my name, as the credits whizzed by – admittedly, the crawl’s a lot slower in the cinema than on the telly.

If you loved the Avengers movie, but also care about the treatment of comic book creators, go to http://www.heroinitative.org and consider making a contribution.

Actually, that whole “hero image on underwear” would work for adults as well: sure, the penis starts off as mild-mannered Dr. Bruce Banner, but get him riled up and he’s big, strong and ready to explode!

Thinking of “Mauschwitz” stories, I was cracked-up by Harlan Elllison’s tale_ of his first/last/half-day at Disney. Figures he wouldn’t ‘fit in’ with the uptight suits there. See _Stalking the Nightmare. Apparently later, his suggestion eventually became a poster that is now quite rare (the lawyers bought up every copy they could find, and tried to intimidate the rest of the owners of one).
