“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!” … or maybe it’s just the stupid economy.

“Hey Mom, we’re finally being trickled down on! Thank you, Tzar Donald and Empress Ivanka.”

I think y’all have missed the point of the cartoon. It is not about Socialism or Capitalism. It is about Global Warming ending human society, and quite possibly human life on this planet. There are two basic reasons why we are committing “ecocide”. One is overpopulation. We have far and away passed the ability of nature to support this corpulent monster the human race has become.

The other reason, like it or not is capitalism. Despite some century-old propaganda, capitalism is the most wasteful economic system ever devised by man. It requires constant exploitation of the natural environment and of human beings. In the words of the economist, Lester Thurow, “Capitalism is like a bicycle, it has to keep moving or it falls over”. We have reached the point at which Mother Earth has decided there are too many of us and we are demanding more of Mother Earth then she is willing to give.

Just what we need….comments from someone who doesn’t know what socialism is but screeches about it anyway because Fox News tells him (or her) to.

It’s already too late now, and most nation’s leaders don’t care anyway. Climate change and global warming has started about 130 years ago, it was mainstream knowledge in the sci community about 40 years ago and it entered political debates on a big scale about 15-20 years ago. Leaders met and agreed on declarations (or not), and the CO2-level continued to rise. Only few nations, mainly small ones, did sth considerable during the last ten years. Since the US now is back on the cheap oil trip, all’s lost. China, India, Indonesia and other big industrializing countries show ever rising levels of energy consumption based on fossil fuels, too, although China is also heavily engaged in solar power. Even the most ambitious plans of the few governments trying to implement a green energy turnaround would not suffice to stay within the important 1.5°C limit if this policy was followed by all nations. But they don’t. The culprits will be dead before it comes to the worst.
