It is an ear thing sometimes I in 4th grade was orally assigned to do an independent research report on someone named John Jay Kobbaster; embarrassingly standing in front of the class I told the teacher said person did not exist, and I’d spent hours in the local library [early 50s no computers] trying to find the info she wanted. It was only then that she informed me it was John Jacob Astor for whom she sought my research. Yep, sometimes GIGO is the teacher’s fault.

I always though the correct name was Hernan Cortes, not Hernando. That’s probably the same confusion Wallace had…

Considering the things 15th century Cortes did, I think i’d rather hear about jet ski owner Cortes instead.
